Inspired by Revelation

1 Corinthians 2:9-12 tells us that revelation is given to the Christian from the Holy Spirit.  This element has caused Christians to be radically sold out for Jesus!  When a believer receives revelation on a certain topic, this causes a conviction that cannot be ignored.  This is why a person who becomes born again is so on fire for God that he/she cannot help but tell others about Jesus.  Revelation gives the believer boldness to stand for Jesus even if it means losing family support and friends for the sake of the Gospel.

Christians who are in a backslidden state have lost their first love (Revelation 2:4) because they have not held onto that revelation that first brought them to Jesus, and they have not positioned themselves to receive more.  Proverbs 29:18a says, “Where there is no vision (revelation), the people perish (fall away or backslide).”  There is no standing still in the Christian life, you are either moving forward or you are backsliding.  If you are a backslidden Christian, you need to rekindle the revelation that caused you to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life.  Jesus never left you, but you left Him.  He is ready to take you back and give you a new beginning.

Revelation should be a normal part of the Christian’s life.  Growing spiritually as a Christian is a process and part of that process is gaining more understanding from the Word of God, which only the Holy Spirit can give.  The Holy Spirit is the giver of revelation, but we as Christians must position ourselves to receive from Him.  We have a part to play in this matter.  Remember, God is looking for a partnership with believers (1 Corinthians 3:9).  I have to point this out: a revelation from the Holy Spirit will always be backed by the Word of God.  Any revelation that is not backed by the Bible originated from you, a demon, or both.  It is not from the Holy Spirit!

The first key to position yourself to receive revelation from the Holy Spirit is to daily read and meditate on the Word of God.  As you do that, you are giving the Author of the Bible access into your life; the Holy Spirit.  1 Corinthians 3:6-7 gives a three step process about receiving revelation.  That verse is in the context of preaching the Gospel, but they are principles that we can apply to our Christian life also.  First you must plant the seed of God’s Word in your heart.  Secondly, you need to water the seed.  And lastly, it says that God will give the increase.  You must read and hear the Word of God to get it in your heart, then you have to water the seed by meditating on the Word of God.  By doing this, it then says that God will give the increase, which is referring to revelation.

Ephesians 1:15-18 reveals to us that it is scriptural to pray for wisdom and revelation.  There are some things that you won’t get revelation about without you praying for it.  That is why praying in tongues is so important in the life of a Christian.  As you properly position yourself, pray for, and receive revelation from the Holy Spirit, you will accomplish things for God on this earth that will make a lasting impact for His Kingdom!
