Overcoming the Storms of Life
Every person on the face of this earth will encounter trials in their life. If your heart is beating, you will face trials and tribulations. However, how you act in the midst of the storm or trial will determine the outcome; whether you are victorious or overtaken by it. If you are a Christian, you have the promises in the Word of God to base your hope and faith upon. If you are not a Christian, you need to be! An unbeliever is a punching bag for Satan and evil spirits; there is a feeling of hopelessness without Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can truly set you free and bring you over to victory for eternity! For those who aren’t experiencing a trial, you will be tempted to stop reading this article. You need to prepare for when the storms of life come. You don’t have to be overcome by them; there is hope! I want to share with you a couple of keys on how to be victorious in the storms of life.
The first key to overcome the storms of life is to choose to believe that the Lord will never forsake you in the midst of your trials. It is easy to lift your hands and praise God when everything is going great, but can you do the same thing in the storms of life? I want you to notice it says, “choose to believe.” Anything with a choice attached to it involves discipline. Faith is a choice. It is not an easy thing to do when circumstances in the natural seem so overwhelming. It takes discipline to stand on the promises of God. You have a part to play in the matter. James 4:8 says, “Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” You must choose to draw and stay close to God in the storms of life. Notice that if we want to be closer to God as Christians, we are to make the initial move.
Secondly, you must allow the Word of God to be the anchor (Hebrews 6:19) of your soul (emotions). Faith in the promises of God’s Word will keep your mind from wandering and fear from overtaking you. God’s Word cannot and will not fail. Hebrews 6:18 says that it is impossible for God to lie. You can fully rely and trust His Word. Until you acknowledge that the Bible is the Word of God and not the word of man, your faith is constantly going to waver. You then count the promises in the Bible no greater than if a person promises you something. You must remove that roadblock of unbelief. The Word of God is the only foundation for your faith on this earth. You must draw strength from the Word of God in your trials. The Bible will be an anchor to your soul if you will let it.
If you will act upon and trust the promises in the Word of God, you will see Romans 8:28 come to pass in your life; “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
