The Language of Faith
When faith is truly present within a born again Christian, there are going to be certain characteristics or fruit that are exhibited. When I first got saved and started attending a charismatic church, I noticed that the Christians used a language and terminology that was quite different from the world. There were characteristics that separated them from the worldly minded people. I call it the language of faith. When a person first gets saved, they may feel like a fish out of water because all that they are used to is worldly talk which is filled with negativity and filthiness. I find it quite amazing that a baby can be born and put in an environment where a certain language is spoken, and eventually that child will speak that language. Even if an American baby was born in another country such as Japan or China, if they are around that environment and hearing that language on a regular basis, that is what they will learn to speak. The same is true for newly saved Christians; we call them baby Christians. They will adapt to the language of faith the more that they surround themselves around mature believers in a good Bible believing church. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” If faith comes by hearing the Word of God, the characteristics of faith will follow.
The first characteristic of the language of faith I want to mention is it speaks or confesses the Word of God. The word ‘confess’ literally means “to agree with.” The language of faith is always going to agree with what God has spoken in His written Word; the Bible. When faith is present in the heart of a Christian, it will manifest in words out of the mouth; it will motivate you to enforce your authority and power over Satan and evil spirits through the Lord Jesus Christ.
The second characteristic of the language of faith is boldness. Faith is not timid or silent. It will take a bold stand against sin. Proverbs 28:1b says that, “The righteous are as bold as a lion.” The righteous stand up for the truth of God’s Word. There is a holy boldness that does not back down to the world, the devil, or false teachings. Jesus was bold. The Apostle Paul was bold. Ephesians 6:18-20 Paul said, “That I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.” We are expected to boldly stand up for the truth. There are no exceptions. If you truly believe that the Bible is God’s Word, you will speak the truth boldly. Some misinterpret boldness for not walking in love. True Biblical boldness always stays within the boundaries of love. Boldness should be motivated by love; love for Jesus and love for people. In these days, the Apostle Paul would be viewed as being arrogant, not walking in love because of his bold stand against sin (1 Corinthians 5:1-5). But you should love people enough to speak the truth of God’s Word to them.
The third characteristic of the language of faith is that it primarily speaks to the mountain and not about it (Mark 11:23). The reason I say that it speaks primarily to the mountain and not about it is because it is not a lack of faith to admit that there is a problem. Faith is not a denial of a problem, sickness or disease. It is refusing its right to remain. To have faith means that you are enforcing your rights and benefits in Christ to overcome it. There is power in our words when they are spoken in faith. You may not see the results right away, but know that something is happening. When Jesus cursed the fig tree, the results were not seen immediately, but obviously the process began immediately because the fig tree withered (Mark 11:20-22).
I want to encourage you to surround yourself with mature Christians that value the Word of God and that are sold out for the Lord Jesus Christ. Connect yourself with a local church that will feed you the Word of God and will teach you the language of faith!
