Exchanging the Truth for a Lie
One of the main reasons the fall of man came to pass in the Garden of Eden is due to this fact: an uncontrolled thought life. In Genesis 2:17, God commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In Genesis 3:1, Satan came along and strategically put a question mark in God’s command when God intended for a period to be there. When a question mark is added to a command or a promise in the Word of God, the purpose is to plant doubt in your mind. Satan and evil spirits love to throw fiery darts of doubt when it comes to the Truth of God’s Word. We must willingly refuse to think on these thoughts that attempt to exalt themselves against the Word of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Satan’s tactic was successful to get Adam and Eve to meditate on his lie. He planted evil thoughts in their mind and they willingly took the bait. You can just imagine what was going through Adam and Eve’s mind, “We could be like God. We could be God.” Sound familiar? This is the very core of New Age beliefs. However, it is not new; it has been around since Lucifer was kicked out of heaven for his rebellion against God. It is a lie that will lead a person to hell for eternity. I want you to understand, that before this account with Satan, Adam and Eve probably walked by this same tree many times, but had no desire to eat of it, no desire to sin, until they meditated on the lie from Satan.
If you allow your thought life to get out of control, you will eventually exchange the truth for a lie and begin justifying your sinful actions. This is called deception. You convince yourself to believe a lie. That is when your conscience (the voice of your spirit man) can become seared. This basically means that your whole belief system is upside down and you cannot discern between right and wrong, between good and evil. Your spiritual senses become dull. The Word of God says in Isaiah 5:20, “Woe to those that call evil good and good evil.” Let me give you a couple of examples. Homosexuality is a sin according to God. The Bible says, it is an abomination against God and is shameful. The very act is unnatural and against nature. In fact, in the beginning, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. I am tired of so called Christian churches justifying the sin of homosexuality. They are not representing the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible. They have fallen into the snare of the devil and are deceiving their congregations to believe the same lie. It is very clear in the Word of God that homosexuality is a sin as found in Romans 1:26-27 and Leviticus 18:22; 20:13. It takes Satan and evil spirits to blind the minds of people from seeing this truth (2 Corinthians 4:4). God means exactly what He said in His Word! He doesn’t need your unscriptural opinion (2 Peter 1:20). People try to make a god in their own mind that approves of their lifestyle, instead of submitting their lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the written Word of God. If you are an individual that is struggling with homosexual thoughts and tendencies, you need to know that Jesus Christ can heal and set you free!
One major mistake that leads to a person’s spiritual down fall is when they do not retain the knowledge of God in their thought life (Romans 1:28). They meditate on vain, futile, and confused thoughts that are against the Word of God. And now they believe and are convinced that the lie is the truth. Romans1:32 points out that not only those that do these evil deeds such as homosexuality or murdering the unborn (abortion) are deserving of judgment, but those that approve of such things. If you call yourself a Christian and approve of homosexuality and abortion or even vote for leaders that approve of those things, the Word of God says that you are just as guilty as if you did the very acts yourself. You will have to give an account to God one day. Some say, “I voted for that person for economic reasons only.” This just reveals what is truly in their heart. They have chosen to lift money above God’s Word and His moral standards. It is no wonder why the Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). It will cause you to stray from the faith and forfeit your relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).
What lies are you embracing in your life today? What sins are you trying to justify in your life and the lives of others? We must exchange every lie that we are holding on to for the Truth of God’s Holy Word. Our blessings, provision, protection from evil, and an abundant life are found within the boundaries of God’s commands. They truly reveal His love for us and how to live a life that is pleasing to Him!
