Five Enemies of the Cross

Today I want to share with you five things that Satan promotes that are enemies of the cross.  These five enemies will keep you from fulfilling God’s plan for your life.  If any of these points are active in your life, your spiritual walk with God will be hindered from moving forward.

The first enemy of the cross is doubt.  The devil tries to get you to question God’s Word and His goodness.  There is a reason why Satan fights the faith message so hard.  It is because he knows the power of faith.  He knows that if you truly believe and act on God’s Word, you will walk in authority and power on this earth as a Christian.  That is a threat to Satan and demon spirits, so this is why they try so hard to make you doubt the Word of God.  You need to starve your doubts and feed your faith by reading and studying God’s Word daily.

The second enemy of the cross is discouragement.  The devil tries to magnify your problems by keeping you focused on them rather than on what God’s Word says about your situation.  Discouragement is based in hopelessness.  Hopelessness is the result of believing lies.  Jesus called Satan the father of lies.  The devil is the promoter of hopelessness and discouragement.  God is the promoter of hope.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Discouragement has no place in the life of a Christian.

The third enemy of the cross is diversion.  The devil tries to make the wrong things seem more attractive so you will want them more than the right things.  Diversion is a failure to make the first things first in your life; it is a perversion of priorities.  Many churches would rather push their liberal agenda more than God’s agenda.  In this generation, we are seeing what the Bible calls “the falling away.”  People have itching ears; they would rather hear something that agrees with their traditions rather than hearing the Truth of God’s Word.  Don’t take the bait that Satan and the world is trying to feed you.

The fourth enemy of the cross is division.  The devil tries to sow division or discord in the Body of Christ to stop the flow of God’s anointing.  It is a break in the pipeline from Heaven to earth.  Division is such an issue in the Church that the Holy Spirit through Paul said in Romans 16:17, “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.”  He is talking about anything outside of the Apostolic teaching from the Word of God.  You are on the devil’s territory when you go outside of God’s Word.

The last enemy of the cross that I want to mention is delay.  The devil tries to make you put off doing something so that it never gets done.  When the devil whispers in your ear, “You can pray later,” or “You can share Christ with them tomorrow,” you can be sure that he has no intention of wanting you to do either one of those things.  Delayed obedience is disobedience and that can lead to terrible consequences in your life.  Be quick to obey the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.  As you grow in your Christian walk with God, you will learn how to effectively fight the good fight of faith!
