The Perfect Gift
The holiday season is
known as a time where people give and receive gifts as a way to show their love
and appreciation for others. Isn't it great when you receive a gift that is
practical; something that can be used over and over again? It would be foolish
to reject a gift that is practical to every aspect of our life. A gift is
worthless to you unless you accept it and take advantage of its usefulness. I
want to talk about a gift that is available to every single person on the face
of this earth. This gift will never fail you. It is a gift that keeps on giving.
We find just what that gift is in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will never die but have
everlasting life." God, the Creator of all things, gave the Perfect Gift to
mankind…His Son, Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9 reveals to us, "that if you confess
with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved." You cannot earn salvation through good works
alone. It is only through receiving the gift of Jesus Christ that you can obtain
it. Not only are you guaranteed eternal life in Heaven when you die, but the
word 'salvation' also implies the blessings of deliverance, preservation,
protection, healing, and soundness!
Psalm 103:2-5 says, "Bless the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not all His
benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who
redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving-kindness and
tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is
renewed like the eagles." That passage of Scripture shows us the blessings that
God intends for us to take advantage of here on earth. Psalm 68:19 declares,
"Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our
salvation." Not just one time, but daily! God loves you so much that He not only
was concerned about where you would spend eternity, but wanted you to live a
life of victory here on earth as well. What an awesome gift He has provided for
us!
It is so easy to get caught up with all of the festivities that we forget the
reason for the season. The best gift that we can share with someone this holiday
and throughout the year is the message of God's love through His Son, Jesus
Christ. He is the most perfect gift that one will ever receive. He wants to
minister to every area of your life.
The holiday season is a time of mixed emotions. For those of you who find this
time of year to be exciting and memorable, it is important that you remember
those who are less fortunate. For those of you who view the holiday season as a
sad and depressing time, you need to know that the Holy Spirit is there to
comfort and heal those areas of your life. Regardless of which side of the fence
you are on, you can be sure of this one fact: God has provided the perfect gift
to every person on this earth: Jesus Christ--He is the gift that keeps on
giving!
