The Power of Your Words

The words that you speak today will determine your tomorrow. Words are a spiritual force. Jesus said in Matthew 12:34 that the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Anywhere in the Bible you see the word 'heart', it is talking about your spirit. Man is a spiritual being that possesses a soul (mind, will & emotions) and lives in a physical body. Whatever is filling your heart will end up coming out of your mouth. Words originate in your spirit; therefore they are a spiritual force. There are only two kingdoms in the spiritual realm: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. The words that we speak are containers. They either contain the power of God or the power of the Devil. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that "death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."

Did you know that people who participate in witchcraft and Satanism place curses on people and summon demonic spirits with words? The devil has taken this spiritual law and truth about words, and has promoted an evil use for it. The devil cannot create anything, but what he does is he takes what God intended for good and perverts it to be used for evil purposes.

Words have power to wound and power to heal (Proverbs 12:18). My wife and I have counseled many people who have had severe emotional abuse by parents who constantly told them that they were stupid; "I wish you were never born," or "You won't amount to anything in life." As the spiritual authority over their children, when those parents spoke those 'word curses' over them, they were loosing the power of the devil on their children. Those parents are no different than the people in Satanism or witchcraft who place curses on others! In fact, we have ministered deliverance to people who got demons in their mother's womb because one or both of the parents said, "I don't want you." I am convinced that the devil has been given place (Ephesians 4:27) to operate in people's lives because of the words that have been spoken over them as a child or the words that they speak themselves as an adult.

Always remember this: words are a compass. You will go in the direction of the words that you speak. I have found this to be true in my own life. When I speak words of negativity, I go in that direction and fail at a task miserably. When I speak the Word of God in my situations, I prosper. Why? Because when you speak in line with the Word of God, you are loosing the power of God in that situation, and when you speak negative words, you are loosing the power of the devil in your situation. That is why the devil tries so hard to get you to speak or confess words of defeat and negativity. The word 'confession' means to agree with or to say the same thing as. My question to you is this, who are your words agreeing with in your life, God or Satan?
